The past few assignments that my dual credit class has worked on over the course of this semester. This will focus on the english projects, papers, and the build up to my final which is this website. We have gone through four major projects, and many journal entries to talk about the difficulties of our projects. The first assignment was over different readings that talked about changing from high school to college education. During this assignment we had to summarize two out of the three articles we were given. Then this flowed into our next assignment which was to analyze the articles that we chose. This paper we analyzed the paper, then put it to our own struggles with school, and our fears. These articles talked about our communities that are always around us and lift us up during our struggles. The third assignment had been about discourse communities. The definition of a discourse community is a group of people who share a set of discourses, understood as basic values and assumptions, and ways of communicating about those goals. This project really opens your eyes to see that you are not alone no matter how lost you are feeling. Other people are going through a similar situation, so it is better to talk to people about what is happening in your life. These assignments were the build up to this final, we have to explain how they all come together.
The education over this course was very confusing, especially once the harder projects came along. Many of us asked for help to understand our projects better, but there was very little help. Our class has become a community to help each of us to try and understand what our assignment is based on, and how to present that information in the correct format. We had to overcome different obstacles, and we are very diverse in our friend groups, and had to really come together to help each other. These projects develop our community inside the classroom. I have learned a lot about having to reread our assignments carefully, and being okay with not fully understanding an assignment although I do my best. The main build up was to our discourse communities, this was very confusing. Although it taught a lot about our surrounding, it is hard to make a clear point as to why we focused on that for so long. Education is to be taught to student to a certain extent, and then the student is to retain the information through studying. Students should not be left alone to understand a topic, especially when it is a difficult topic with very few resources. This made everything harder to get a decent grade. Even our teacher had a hard time helping us understand what our professor wanted us to do. The education format that we were given was very confusing for everyone. This is very hard on high school students especially with most of us being very busy with many different classes.
The field of study I am interested in is sports medinice and internal chiropracting. This class has not changed my mind, although I have learned that you can always get help from fellow students. The discourse communities I am in are very well rounded, and our views are somewhat similar, but that always leads to a good discussion. I have to wonder if the field of study I want to go into is the right one for me, but everyone I talk to tells me that I will do amazing. I have been looking what classes I will need to take to get these degrees, and they are very similar. This class has just opened up my eyes to see the communities that I am surrounded by. It also taught me how to lean on people that are in a similar situation. Also that you can overcome every obstacle with people by your side, and that it is okay not to get a perfect grade every single time. I wish that we had better resources to guide us through our projects, it was very time consuming to find a good source that explained part of the assignment.
